Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 September 2026
This policy explains what techru ("we", "us") collects when you use a techru messaging assistant (by SMS, RCS, or any equivalent channel we operate) or visit this website, and what we do with it.
Who we are
techru is an independent software practice operated from the United Kingdom. For any privacy question or request, contact admin@techru.co.uk.
What we collect
- Your phone number, so we can send and receive messages with you.
- Message content you send to the assistant, and the assistant's replies.
- Basic usage metadata — timestamps, message length, which AI model handled a reply, and token counts — used for reliability and cost tracking.
- Durable facts you ask the assistant to remember (for example, a stated preference), if you use that feature. You can view, add to, or erase this at any time by texting the assistant directly.
How message content is protected
Conversation content is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM, with a unique key derived per contact. This means stored messages are not readable in plain form by us, including anyone with administrative access to the underlying system. Support requests you send us directly (for example, by emailing us or using an in-conversation support command) are handled as plain text, since a person needs to read and act on them.
Who else sees this data
We use a small number of infrastructure providers to operate the service, each acting as a data processor on our behalf:
- A messaging carrier (for delivering SMS/RCS messages to and from your device).
- A cloud hosting provider (for running the service and storing encrypted data).
- An AI model provider (to generate assistant replies — the provider receives message text needed to generate a response, but not your phone number or stored durable facts unless they appear in the message itself).
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
Encrypted conversation history and any durable memory are kept until you delete a conversation, ask the assistant to forget stored facts, or ask us to delete your data entirely. Usage metadata is kept for operational purposes and is not itself personally revealing beyond the phone number it's tied to.
Your rights
If you're in the UK or EU, you have rights under the UK GDPR / GDPR to access, correct, or delete your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, email admin@techru.co.uk. You can also lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you believe we've mishandled your data.
Opting out
You can stop receiving messages at any time by replying STOP, or by contacting us directly. This does not affect messages you send us afterwards by email.
Automated decision-making
Replies from the assistant are generated by an AI model. The assistant is clearly identified as automated, and a human is always reachable through the contact details on this site if you'd rather not deal with the automated system.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
